Apparently "Web 2.0" is the millionth word in the England Language.

Am I the only one who seems a problem in that? Mainly that it is a phrase rather than a word.

It has also been around for years, as has N00b which was made a word today too. I am 100% certain I could find more than 25,000 references to N00b on the web dating back over a decade. Get with the times, n00b!

That said, the English language is going down hill when market-speak and l33t phrases are classed as "words".

Sheesh.

Facebook [May. 7th, 2009|06:15 pm]
I know I whinged about people that whinged about the new facebook look. But the new friends page look has pretty much removed any use of the program to me. The friends page no longer shows recent status updates of friends, as I don't go on it daily (so don't see everything on my main page) I used to use this way to see who had updated.

Pretty much the only thing I'll use it for now are games.

Having a bit of a clear out on my friends list.

Doubt it'll affect anyone that actually reads it, more communities and stuff like that which I no longer follow.

Quite successful day today, got plenty of things done which I wanted to. Glad about that.

Next week in work is going to be manic though. :-s

"Sex offenders face website bans"

I know politicians etc live in the past but has no one informed them that it takes around 5 seconds to create a new email address? They aren't even like bloody mobile phone numbers (and I have a box of 50 sim cards at home so they aren't exactly indisposable).

If the best idea that the police can come up with to stop all these evil sex offenders is this, then I really worry about how they'll solve a murder enquiry or something. All murderers will be required to apply in writing beforehand?

Book Signings [Apr. 1st, 2008|11:17 am]
I had a morning off last Thursday as I had to sort out some stuff for my new job, on the way back to work afterwards I de-toured via the Trafford Centre in order to attend a book signing.

I've never been to one of these before, as I've never really felt the need but I noticed that one of my favourite authors, Lee Child was signing copies of his new book, so I thought I'd go along. I got there at about 1145 for a 1200 start and there was already a big queue (right out of Waterstones and past the shop next door) so I went in, got two copies of the book (one for me and one for Dad) and joined the queue.

I was quite surprised at the mix of people there, I wasn't sure really who read those books but it seemed to range from pensioners to teenagers, and a lot of women (which did surprise me if only because of the content of the books). The queue moved pretty quickly and I got to the front, got both of my copies signed and managed to talk with Lee for a minute or so. I asked him where he used to live in Cumbria (as it says he lived in Cumbria before he emgriated on the book sleeves) and he said Kirkby Lonsdale. He smiled when I said I was from Cumbria as well, although he's lost any sign of an English accent so I guess he has been over in the US quite a while now.

I gave my Dad his copy over the weekend as an early birthday present and he was delighted with it. When he opened it up he just thought I had wrote something in it myself but then when he saw it was a proper greeting to him he was really happy. So glad I went along in the end.

Got a couple of pictures as well from the event, which I've put below the cut. They are also going on my facebook, along with some pictures from the Basketball that me and [info]peterb went to a couple of weeks ago (Peter - is it ok if I steal that one of me and Ellen that you took btw?).

Time served [Apr. 1st, 2008|10:05 am]
So, my last day for Halton was last Friday, and I am now officially a free man, for a week at least.

I start the week long corporate induction for my new job with Western Cheshire PCT next Monday. Sounds like it is going to be a barrel of laughs.. not (the induction that is).

Still technically employed by HBC this week but using up the rest of my annual leave I had left over. Lots of things to do this week though, so I am actually going to try and list them, because otherwise I will forget to do so much:

Half way through moving house now. The bedroom is sorted, all the others rooms are a mess. Really liking it though, so much nicer than the flat.

Plus 4mb broadband, as opposed to 1mb. It's only at 2.7mb so far but it is speeding up as the day goes on, BT said it'd take a while to get sorted as the line hasn't been activated here for a while.

Ashes to Ashes [Feb. 7th, 2008|10:12 pm]
Too. Fucking. Cool

Wasn't too sure how it was going to turn out but I really liked it. Not sure about the smart-arse psych comments, but then Sam was like that in LoM as well. I liked the fact they kinda tied up LoM by saying that Sam lived another 7 years in that world, though it is a shame they killed him off, I would have loved to have seen a cameo by him, even if just one.

Not sure where the clown thing is going, lots of flashbacks as well so I guess it is going to be something to do with her parents. Lots of Red as well, which at least is brighter than the browns and creams they used in LoM.

More for me to relate to as well, I had a Walkman just like those when I was a kid, right upto the red earphones and the metal alice band bit over your head (it used to really pull on my hair and hurt), the weird cell type blankets and the Quattro. Didn't see any black ash furniture (which is one of my overriding memories of the 80s) but I guess that was maybe later than 1981.

Gene Hunt is most certainly back, in a way I think his psuedo-coolness suits the 80s more than the 70s. Thought the Miami Vice scene was cheesy but cool.

Your diary entry for today will read, kidnaped a prossie, and got shot by three ARMED BASTARDs
I hope it keeps up as well as the first episode was. I might even pull out a grey suit/black shirt combo tomorrow as a tribute.

Jobs [Feb. 5th, 2008|08:22 pm]
[mood |chipper]

So I have a new job, or at least I will have soon.

I had an interview last Thursday for a job with Western Cheshire Primary Care Trust as a Public Health Analyst. Before the interview I was a little unsure about the whole thing, but I am glad I went along, I felt the interview went really well and the next morning I was offered the job.

I haven't handed my notice in yet, I am just waiting for the paper work to all come through but hopefully by my birthday I will be in the new job. Sure iti s a little bit of travelling but the bottom of the pay scale is £3k more than I am on now (and nearly more than I could progress to if I stayed) so I think in the long run it is a good thing.

Consequently at work I am having fun being awkward with requests coming in and not doing a great deal of work.

New job FTW!

[music |Le Nozze di Figaro (Sull Aria)]

For a combination of weird reasons I've decided I want to start learning again, some sort of Mathematics, because it is my greatest regret not taking my interest further at school. Applied Mathematics if possible, but that might be a dream.

I'm fed up with my job as well. Alistairs post has been re-advertised and it has been pretty much confirmed to me that I will have no chance of getting it, which doesn't suit me. Thankfully though I am not only ruthlessly ambitious but good at what I do (and a tad arrogant/self confident, I won't hide that!). Only thing though is I need to co-ordinate a house move in the next couple of months before this place is sold, so moving house and jobs is going to be a task.

News Sniffer [Dec. 18th, 2007|06:42 pm]
If you haven't used it, News Sniffer is a very interesting website, basically it acts like the Internet Archive, tracking any revisions to articles on a number of news sites, including the BBC.

I have been following the story today about Radio 1 cutting out the word 'faggot' from The Pogues song, Fairytale of New York.

When the story first came out on the website this morning there was a quote in the article from a Radio 1 spokeswoman saying they had "made their decision" and would not be going back on it.

When I got home from work I noticed the BBC had backtracked on this decision after pretty much universal derision on its own message boards, and when I went back to look at the website the quote had been quietly removed, presumably to try and spare the BBCs blushes (or cover up, more likely).

You can see two versions of the article with the quote in here, if you go to the link above you'll notice no mention of that quote. Maybe they thought people wouldn't notice?

My suggestions?

Either don't make stupid decisions to start with, or if you are going to, and then defiantly say they are not going to change, then don't. All Radio 1 have managed to do is look stupid and indecisive, although the writing was probably on the wall from the start here, considering Radio 2 said they wouldn't be following Radio 1, and even Radio 4 played it this afternoon.

This benefits data thing [Nov. 21st, 2007|08:08 am]
I can see some good frothing at the mouth at work today.

Personally I am a little insulted by the whole thing, as the media has decided that whoever finds these missing discs is gonig to use them for nefarious purposes. The BBC went as far as calling it a "huge risk".

I'd love to see how they worked that one out, I am sure it wouldn't just be a kneejerk reaction from the BBC. But lets face it, there is much more of a chance that the discs have been sent to some batty old woman who'll hang them on her Christmas tree, or TNT broke the package and chucked it in the bin, whistling innocently to avoid getting in trouble.

Just what are the odds an international bank fraud thief will come across them, and even if they do, what are they going to do with the details?

This is what confuses me the most, the BBC suggested they may "guess the password on your online bank account if you use your childs name as the password".

OH NOES! 25million data entries lost (I presume, the BBC is very poor at reporting about what format the data actually is in), if the thief could process 1,000 entries a day (a tall order) it would still take 25,000 days (just shy of 69 years) to go through them all, and that is after working out other things you need to access online banking, such as the key fobs used by Natwest, the 8-10 digit bank assigned log in number and a whole manner of other things.

By all means, foam at the mouth over the fact they were lost in the first place, but if you are stupid enough to use your date of birth as your online banking password, you are probably already in correspondence with the King of Nigeria about a bank deposit he wants to make, and need to have some money stolen to wake you up.

But the odds of these discs being found by someone who knows what to do with them? Pretty low I would wager.

CV's [May. 3rd, 2007|07:33 pm]
Got a call from an agency today wanting my CV, realised I should maybe put myself out a bit more if I want another job.

I'm trying to re-do my CV as it is a few months old now, I'd appreciate it if you guys could direct me to yours for me to get ideas of what to put into it?

Feel free to edit/delete anything that is sensitive, I'm not being nosy, more interested in what I should be doing.

I got a call about the job in the council I mentioned a while back, I didn't get an interview because I didn't have the experience, however I was told another one is going up that is going to be a deputy of that one I applied for, and the guy hinted quite strongly that he would be interested in me if I apply. It is still just for twelve months, but that this one I have now is only till the end of next March (although it has been pretty much confirmed I will be kept on). Still interested in the other though as it will be doing more hardcore GIS developing than I am doing now, and that is where I want to be.

Things that annoy me about BBC Breakfast news, #156 [Apr. 4th, 2007|07:47 am]
156. The phrase "Satnav" - dumbing down to the worst extent. Use GPS, or the phrase "Satelllite Navigation System". You don't call a desktop computer a "Deskper" do you?

Also on the same vein, anyone who follows a GPS religiously, like that daft bitch that drove into a river because her GPS "told her" to. As I've said before, if you don't set it up correctly it won't know if you are in a Merc or walking (and therefore possibly able to ford a river that that GPS doesn't know if it is swelled).

If only I could program a GPS to send people over the edges of Beachy Head. The perfect idiot reduction tool.

Embarrased to be English [Feb. 8th, 2007|07:40 am]
I am embarrassed to be English this morning.

When will this country stop going batshit insane whenever it "snows"?

4 inch of snow does not make a snow drift

When I was having a shower this morning Radio City was basically not telling me to leave the house unless I owned a tracked vehicle and had a shotgun to protect me from the desperate trapped starving hordes I would find scavenging outside my house.

The thing is Radio City covers Liverpool, Halton, the Wirral and North Cheshire. I am pretty confident there is not a house or a road in that area that is ever any further than 2 miles from civilisation, so why on earth all the fuss? It isn't like Canada, people aren't going to be found dead 6 foot from a house after getting caught out in a blizzard.

Thankfully when I was in my teens my father's access to a stupid amount of snow related equipment means I own a pair of chains (not that there is ever enough snow to use them, you need a good 6 inch of the stuff minimum), am capable of driving in snow (and more importantly recognise when I am not and don't go out) and strangely, am capable of driving a Snow Trac, should the need arise.

However as there is only a hard frost outside, I can't see the need.

Remember kids, don't leave the house unless it is absolutely necessary, in fact with this weather save yourself and just commit suicide now!

Windy Out [Jan. 18th, 2007|04:48 pm]
[mood |exhausted]

And some.

Thelwall Viaduct closed on the M6 today at lunch time, diverting the world and his wife across the Runcorn bridge. Suprise suprise some prat crashed on it and that closed. So everyone decided to go through Warrington, causing a crash on Winwick Road, closing that. Weaver Bridge on the M56 is also closed, meaning the only way to get from the Midlands to the North West is the Mersey Tunnel. Wonder how long till some wankmonkey crashes in that?

Came home early as everyone else buggered off in order to add more cars to the traffic jam. At least I live near home.

As I was leaving the council convened DOSEC, the emergency planning group. Sounds like some sort of James Bond secret organisation don't you think?

In other wind related news, a tree came down in the car park blocking everyone in, the caretakerw chopped the whole thing down in an hour, respect! The roof came off Kwik Fit (blocking the road to the bridge whilst it was still open) and generally everything is batshit insane.

I can't help but think a lot of this is caused by the Highways Agency panicking, you have more chance of being killed by a coconut than being blown away in your car. HGV = high centre of gravity, Ford Focus = perfectly fine.

The Spirit of Christmas? My Arse.... [Dec. 31st, 2006|04:12 pm]
Watching the adverts from Park Hampers reminded me once again of the Farepak debacle. I don't know if anyone reading this had a farepak account, but if so I suggest you skip the rest of this post.

About 2 weeks ago there was a piece of BBC North West tonight from a woman who recieved her hamper from the charity that was set up after the company went bust. I thought the piece would be a nice fluffy "at least Christmas wasn't totally ruined", but I was wrong. Instead I was presented with a chain smoking mother of 27 complaining that the charity hamper she was given was "no good" because it didn't have in what she ordered.

It was at this point the last ounce of sympathy I had for these people went out of the window.

You know what? Life is fucking tough, sometimes it deals you a load of shit, but guess what, in your case people decided to start a charity to try to help you, and what do they get for it? Moaning fucking whingers like you still complaining. If I was the charity I'd go back round your house and take the hamper off you (you don't want it, it has nothing in you like, but you'll keep it after all won't you?). As usual the BBC angled the whole piece towards criticising the people who tried to help for getting it all wrong. Considering they had about 2 weeks before Christmas to put together several thousand hampers and get them delivered I reckon they did a sterling job.

I think it was bad enough when the BBC spent a month villifying companies that had chose not to donate to this charity, as if they were honour bound to do so, and the tabloids responding that companies that low income families use shouldn't be allowed to go bankrupt.

The whole reaction to Farepak from start to finish was bordering on ludicrous, if say a timeshare company for middle class Guardian readers had gone bust I can't see hundreds of other travel agents helping them out. Granted to these people the money wouldn't have been such a loss overall, but they still worked hard for it. Big flashy campagins like this get lots of coverage, but everyone forgets about all the people who are made redundant weeks before Christmas every single year, and the hundreds of smaller companies that go bankrupt every week.

Rather than throwing money at ungrateful people and villifying companies who don't help out, why doesn't the Government try educating people in how to save properly for large events. A decent credit union would let you save a set amount each money and have a better return than something like Farepak and with all the protection of a bank. Also, rather than attacking door step lenders on tv, why not try to get legislation changed so that such people are not able to take advantage of certain areas of society.

And in the meantime get me that hamper off that moaning woman, it was chock full of cheap alcopops and crisps, that'll ding dang do for me!

The past few weeks... [Aug. 10th, 2006|05:23 pm]
...have been a little busy, hence the lack of updates.

Last week I was down in Widnes for two days at the start looking at the flats I mentioned in my last entry. A lot of the viewings ended up being cancelled as the flats had already gone, and I got the time confused on another so whilst I saw the outside of it I missed actually looking round. It was a 1 bedroom place in Warrington, but seemed to be in the middle of a development where nothing much was happening, don't fancy living in a building site so I wasn't too bothered.

The one I did look around though I liked a lot, it is just out of Cronton, which is a village just out of Widnes. Ground floor, 2 bedrooms (one is tiny but will function well as a study), no horrible council estates nearby and when I looked around I figured I probably wouldn't see much better so I went for it.

The rent was a little higher than I was aiming for, but the council tax was a lot less than I was expecting so it all evened out, and I signed the papers for it the day after. All going well I will be picking up the keys for it on the 21st of this month, with a view to moving in the weekend after that when my parents get back from Canada.

I also got a call from my boss that day to confirm a start date of September 7th, which will give me a couple of weeks to get settled into the area and get some furniture. If I can get a free day or so I will head over to Manchester as well. I spent the night in between house hunting at Sian's last week, though it was a Tuesday night so there was nothing to do really, but it was good to be back.

My parents left for Canada a week ago so I've had the house to myself since then, haven't been doing a great deal, either going to the pub or spending my days playing AoE or watching television.

Been watching that Sinchronicity on BBC3, a bit like This Life for the year 2000 but with a little more comedy and irony. I've seen a few scenes I could relate to which were funny (though non which involved the gay best friend!) and it was good to see lots of familiar places.

That is about it really, I need to sort out a phone line and internet connection next week then I will post all my ammended details in a locked post.

Property! [Jul. 26th, 2006|11:42 pm]
[mood |thoughtful]
[music |Otis Redding - (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay]

In a bit of a thoughtful mood tonight, spent most of it organising all my dead tree trails and documents etc into one large file organiser, rather than several messy box files (that are impossible to rifle through). I threw a lot of stuff out to do with old car insurance, old bills and bank statements, but it was when I got to the folder marked Uni that I felt a little funny. Sitting there shredding away all the welcome letters and stuff from the first year and I realised that it really is all over now. Strange to think when ever upto the last days I was happy to be leaving that now I am getting weird about it. I've been so busy I think that I haven't noticed. Tonight was the first time I sat down in ages and even then I was busy. I did keep a few letters to do with my induction and first hall, just for old times sake. But so far I am doing quite well on the clear out. Gave up in the end as my father's £100 industrial cross cut shredder was smoking, which probably meant I should give it a rest. I duly did so.

This song probably isn't the best to be listening to like I am, but meh. Really fancy a drink, but alas I have nothing in the house but Malt Whiskey, and if start drinking that it wouldn't be good. Sure I have a bottle of JD round here somewhere, but I think it is downstairs...

The rest of today was also productive, I was down in Cheshire sorting out job type things. Handed all my documents in to Personnel to get them photocopied, all I have to do now is send in my H&S form (in hte post tomorrow) and then I can agree a start date with my boss, hoping it will be towards the start of next month as my parents are off to Canada next Wednesday (lost track of July, though it was later than that!). After that I started looking for properties. I had the address of one agent in Widnes so duly went and parked in the town centre (free town centre carpark - w00t!) and went exploring. I didn't want to take the GPS on foot with me so decided to try and find a town guide, though WH Smiths said they had been discontinued, so I just wandered a bit.

Widnes town centre doesn't seem to big, a couple of dated shopping precints and a market, so I found the place I was looking for with relative ease. However the agent said they didn't deal with lettings and I would have to go over to Runcorn, so I took the address and left. Found another 2 agents over the road, 1 did lettings and I booked appointments to see 3 sets of Apartments next Tuesday. All of them are 2 bedrooms but still within my price range, secure parking etc as I fancied going for a new build rather than a house. For what I could afford I could rent a 3 bedroom house but it would be a waste of money maintaining it and paying council tax.

On the whole Widnes doesn't seem that bad, quite compact, easy enough to get to the town centre from work etc. Was weird in a way being in a town that isn't dominated by students, I quite liked it, there wasn't that air of arrogance you seem to get when a large group of students come to a town. On a more perverse note I saw plenty of deprivation, which is good as it will keep me in employment.

Didn't see much of Runcorn, nipped over the bridge (avoiding the WPC balancing half on a kerb, behind a bush with a hairdrier...) and parked up (again free!) and the estate agent was pretty near by. Found out they didn't have much in Widnes, but booked in for 1 in Widnes and 2 in Runcorn. Can't remember the names of many of these places, but I have the addresses of where to first meet and then I should be able to follow the agent! One of the ones I have booked to look round though is this one. About the top end of my budget and I think it'll be more than I need, but worth a look around anyhow, think I was more tempted by the money off and cashback if nothing else!

After that I wimbled over to Warrington to go to an agent that I was directed to from another one that I went to in Widnes (confused? I was!). They were easy to find at least and put me onto a couple of properties, they even said if I was interested they could show me round one in the afternoon, so I said sure. The property in question was Beech Court. But more about that later.

They said call back around 1430 so I nipped over to Skem for lunch with [info]peterb in the meantime. Experienced the delights of the M58 and Englands second largest herd of free range roundabouts (after Milton Keynes of course!) including one that seemed so long round for 3 junctions I feared I'd run out of fuel during the experience. For a new town it was cleaner than I expected, though I never quite got what was going through the minds of those who designed such places. You are given a large budget and a blank canvas to build on, and all you can come up with is a concrete metropolis? I guess in the 60s they were cutting edge, but they must look bleak now in the winter. Partook in a McDonalds whilst in Skem, which involved waiting 20 minutes for a burger and then being given a different one than what I ordered and some complimentary fries, hmmm.

Had a call from the agent once I left Skem saying to meet at the property at 1500. Got there just before and wished I hadn't bothered. Whilst the property itself looks good, the picture on that site isn't entirely representative. To one side is a large estate of council maisonettes, to the back council houses, to the front a derelict leisure centre, and to the other side a working mans club and a bookies that look like they are in the middle of the war zone. Like I said though it was a real shame, I loved the kitchen/living room, all brand new with built in appliances, it had a nice bathroom and 1 good sized bedrooms and another that would have made a great study. I just don't think though I'd want to live so far out of town when I wouldn't really be able to do anything at night. I think a lot of people had the same idea as of the 8 flats in the block the landlord told me I could have had my choice of 6 of them, including 2 that were on a split level. Seriously, if it had been anywhere else I would have probably taken it there and then.

Whilst I was with the agent we looked at the listings for a couple of 1 bedroomed places in Warrington, I am going to call up tomorrow and see if I can book viewings for those around my others next week. At a saving of upto £100/m I realised I would be happy to take 1 bedroom and put my study in the living room as long as everything else suited.

That is about all for now, longest post in a while I guess. Off to York tomorrow for the weekend so probably not going to be anything else now until next Monday.

The public sector will employ anyone with a sharp suit and the gift of the gab...even me :-)

The bloke called me at 9am on the dot to tell me, am well happy. he position probably won't start till september he said, which is fine by me as it means I am not rushed into finding somewhere to live. He's sending all the details to my parents as well which is handy. What is even more handy though is the pay scale, which if I remember from the original advert is rather juicy for straight out of University.

Pete - I definitely owe you a pint now for putting me onto it, wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

W00t, win and joy.

Everything else [Jun. 22nd, 2006|02:24 pm]
[music |Lordi - My Heaven Is Your Hell]

Still not convinced with this England squad, 2-2 against Sweden probably represented how we played, but Sven is a joke. It seems to be a case of "popular 11" rather than "Best 11", he's wasted a space on Wallcott who he won't seem to give a game to (and frankly I'll be cacking myself if he is given much of a role in the later stages) and we are down a striker now with Owen out.

Job wise I was up in Cumbria at the start of this week, found out that there is another GIS company nearby so I went in a handed in a CV, they are only looking for an Admin assistant but when I told the guy who worked there I had a degree in GIS he perked up, said his MD would have spoke to me personally but he is away on business, I hope that bodes at least partially well, eh?

Suspended looking for jobs in Manchester at the moment, I have no money to find a house even if I got one, so at least for the short term I am going to move back to Cumbria, hope something comes of that job and see where to take it from there. My local pub might be able to throw some shifts my way as well, so at least I will be bringing in a little bit of money.

In other news, read the Da Vinci Code whilst I was up in Cumbria, quite a good book, better than I was expecting at least, though I am rather skeptical over it's contents until I have read Holy Blood, Holy Grail (which I left in Cumbria, d'oh!). Then yesterday me and Richard went to see the film of it. Wasn't much of a fan of the book, they butchered far too much of it for my liking, if I hadn't read the book it would have been an ok film, but it was far too different from the book to really be the same thing.

Managed to get the phone and the internet cancelled (or ready to) as well for when I move out, so now we all just need to clean up the house. Pretty got most of my big items moved out as well.

Shouldn't be home for too long though, looking again at Leeds and West Yorkshire for jobs. Plenty out there, just getting an interview, hehe.

2-0 [Jun. 15th, 2006|06:53 pm]
[music |Guns & Roses - November Rain]

Bit better, but until that last 20 minutes I was sweating a little bit.

Least it means we can rest a few people for the next game.

0-0 HT [Jun. 15th, 2006|05:49 pm]
I still don't think this is a team that can win the world cup.

It would be nice if we did, but if this team meets the Argies or Brazil I don't see us having much chance.

Jobs [Jun. 14th, 2006|10:21 pm]
Went for a kind of interview today, it's with Loot doing in-bound calls, not really a long term option but the money is pretty good and it would give me a bit of breathing space.

It was meant to just be an open day in the Midland Hotel (so I got to see how the other half live - beautiful hotel) but it was suggested I fill in an application if I wished and they would do a couple of tests and have a chat with me, saving me doing it on the phone if I wished to progress. Got given a really easy spelling test, and had a chat with a woman about skills etc, nothing to hard and I think I put myself across quite well.

Guess I just have to sit back and wait now.

I looked into the Police as well, but it seems I'd have no joy, hardly any forces are recruiting at the moment, neither are the BTP which I wouldn't mind doing either.

Broadening out my interests a bit, as long as I get something though I'll be happy.

Gunshots [Jun. 12th, 2006|12:51 am]
Hearing Gunshots outside, three "pop-pop-pop" in quick succession, sounding like they were out the back of venus foods. Then two more, and just now a couple more. Pretty sure they weren't fireworks, certainly none I have ever heard.

Shall see if I hear any sirens soon.

Full weekend update tomorrow. Absolutely roasting here.

Update: More bangs, those were louder with a little bit more resonance so maybe they are fireworks. Hmmm.

French Open [Jun. 9th, 2006|12:22 pm]
The ball boys/girls at the French open don't half look scruffy compared to those at Wimbledon, I swear I saw one slouching, that'd be a shooting offence over here!

Slept in though so haven't had a chance to get into town, better go now, but it is going to be boiling outside.

World cup world cup world cup, squeeeee!

Fab Cafe [Jun. 8th, 2006|09:51 pm]
[music |David Bowie - The Jean Genie]

I love this song, they were playing it in Fab Cafe last night.

Was meant to be going to that Indie/Rock thing at Mutz Nutz but it was cancelled at the last minute for reasons unknown, so me and Sian decided to go to Fab as Scott was doing a quiz there. Missed the start of the quiz but I helped the team we were sitting with, got about 8 questions right meaning they came fourth, which out of ten teams wasn't bad.

Ollie came along later for a couple of drinks, and we planned some World Cup stuff. People are coming here for the first match, I may put some snacks on if I can be bothered, we have a big telly and plenty of room in the living room as I've cleared a lot of it out, so if anyone is at a loose end on Saturday then come along, 2pm kick-off.

Today I've spent bagging up a lot of my clothes, I can't believe how many I have, I think a lot of them I can get rid of at some point, but I will most likely do that back in Cumbria.

Got a call from Reed today about my CV, the woman seemed to be trying to catch me out though which I found annoying, she says she will get me some interviews but didn't seem to interested when I said I was only after GIS, however if they try to give me interviews for stuff I am not interested in I shall tell them where to get too. Filled in a few more online profiles though today, so something may come of that.

Duffy seems in a good mood today at least, talked to him for the first time in ages when he got in from work, so that is good. He's gone out again now so I am going slowly mad again. Need to go into town tomorrow and pay some bills, I may pop into Maplin and see if they have a cheap desk fan as this room is stupidly warm, if nothing else it'll curse the weather and it'll start raining. French Open semi's tomorrow as well, so I may try to get into town when it is still cool in the morning so I don't miss that. Then World Cup in the afternoon, which I am looking forward to!

That's all for now folks, drop me a comment/text if you wanna come round for the footie!
